Sholokhov- Centre" of the museum – reserve of M. A. Sholokhov is a platform for holding the largest exhibitions and cultural – educational projects in the Southern Federal district. It is located in the city of Rostov-on-Don in the old mansion – House of Martyn brothers, built by the architect N. M. Sokolov in 1893 in the centre of the former fortress of St. Demetrius of Rostov (1761 – 1835), an important part of the historical territory of Rostov. The building is a striking landmark in the city, a magnificent monument of the late XIX century, of historical and architectural value.
Before the October revolution the house was owned by the family of I. R. Martin – a British citizen, the founder of the firm, John Martyn and K0". In 1920, the building was nationalized during its operation, there was a significant loss, the room underwent alterations, details of decoration were destroyed. In 2007 the mansion was in poor condition, was transferred to the museum – reserve of M. A. Sholokhov, in 2008 – 2014, carried out its restoration and returned to its historical appearance. 22-nd of May, 2015, in the year of the 110-th anniversary of M. A. Sholokhov and the Year of literature in Russia took place the solemn opening of the "Sholokhov- Centre", and his activity began with the exhibition "Traces of the Cossack past… from the collection of the largest museum in the world – the State Hermitage.
